Born on 18th October 1942, Willie Horton is a retired baseball player who represented six different American teams most notably the Detroit Tigers from 1963 - 1977. Horton signed for Detroit Tigers after winning the city championship with the Detroit Northwestern High School, Michigan. He made his first appearance in Major League Baseball with Tigers in 1963. He had pinch in hit run of Robin Roberts. During his first two year with Tigers he got little playing time before the rookie campaign in 1965 in which he excelled. He was second in American League with 104 RBI (runs batted in) and third in the home runs list. His success earned him a place in American League All Star team as well as being placed eighth in MLB Most Valuable Player balloting. He was known for his power hitting as he often scored home runs with one handed swing. He scored double homeruns in twelve seasons from 1965-1976. His 36 home runs in 1968 season were highest he scored during a season in his career. His efforts helped Detroit win the 1968 World Series. He was four time member of All Star team and was named American League Outstanding Designated Hitter in 1975. During 1977 season he was traded to Texas Rangers. In 1978 he became manager of Venezuelan Team Nevagantes del Magallanes and guided them to Championship in 1979. The same year he earned American League Comeback Player of the Year Award. After retiring he coached New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox. In 2000 he became only the sixth player who was honored by Detroit Tigers
