John "Boog" Powell is a former first baseman in Major League Baseball who played for the Baltimore Orioles, Cleveland Indians and Los Angeles Dodgers.
Powell joined the Orioles in 1961, and spent his first three seasons as a slow-footed left fielder before switching to first base in 1965. In 1966, Powell led the Orioles to the 1966 World Series, where they became baseball's world champions. In the 1970 World Series, Powell homered in the first two games and the Orioles defeated the Cincinnati Reds.
Prior to the 1971 seaon, Powell appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated for a baseball preview issue. Boog Powell played a total of 17 years in the big leagues, fourteen with Baltimore.
Powell now owns Boog's BBQ with locations at Camden Yards and in Ocean City, MD.
