Tyler Brule is a Canadian journalist and magazine publisher who moved to the United Kingdom in 1989 to train as a journalist with the BBC.
He wrote for The Guardian, Stern, The Sunday Times and Vanity Fair. In March of 1994, he was shot while covering the Afghanistan war after which he decided to leave journalism and launch a magazine. His magazine, Wallpaper*, is a style and fashion magizine which was rated as one of the most influential magazines of the 90's.
Wallpaper was purchased by Time Warner in 1997 and Brule was kept as the editorial director. This magazine led to two other spin-off magazines , "Line" focusing on sports and "Spruce" focusing on fashion. In 2001, Brule became the youngest person to have received the British Society of Magazine Editors Lifetime Achievement Award.
In 2002, Brule left Wallpaper to concentrate on a design agency he founded in 1998 now called "Winkreative". He served as the host for the TV media magazine The Desk on BBC 4 in the year 2005. The following year, he co-produced a documentary series about cultural aspects of shopping called "Counter Culture" also for the BBC.
He is currently a regular columnist for the Financial Times as well as for The New York Times. He writes his observations on travel, trends, and high-end consumer goods in his column "Fast Lane". These observations are based upon his experiences traveling around the world on a weekly basis.
