Mark McGwire is one of the most prolific powerhitters Major League Baseball has ever seen. Mark played in the majors from 1986-2001. He is best known for his 1998 season in which he chased down Roger Maris's single season record of 61 home runs. During that season, Mark hit 70 home runs setting a new record.
For his career, McGwire averaged a home run once every 10.61 at bats, the highest home run ratio in baseball history. McGwire earned the nicknames "Big Mac" and "Big Red".. He had numerous home runs that sailed over 500 feet.
While in Major League Baseball, Mark was a member of the Oakland A's and the St. Louis Cardinals. In 1989, Mark won his first and only World Series with the Oakland A's.
Currently, Mark works with the Mark McGwire Foundation for Children to support agencies that work with children who have been sexually and physically abused.
