William E. “Ed” Crenshaw began his Publix career in 1974 as a grocery clerk at #2, Lake Wales, Fla. After working in a variety of retail and support jobs, he was promoted to director of retail operations for the Lakeland Division in 1984. In 1990 he was promoted to vice president of the Lakeland Division, overseeing retail operations for central Florida. He was elected to the board of directors that same year. In 1991 Ed moved to Georgia and helped introduce Publix to new customers in the metro-Atlanta area as vice president of the Atlanta Division. In 1993 he was promoted to executive vice president of retailing, with all division vice presidents reporting to him. He became President in January 1996. Born in Mineral Wells, Texas, in 1950, Ed received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Baylor University in 1973.
