In the 1970's, Dr. Jim Loehr and physiologist and nutritionist Dr. Jack Groppel, founded LGE Performance Systems, Inc., and began working with top professional athletes to help them sustain optimal performance in the face of fierce competitive pressures. In the mid-1980s, Jim Loehr began applying the principles he had used so effectively with athletes to other high performance venues, including military special forces units, FBI Hostage Rescue teams and emergency response medical teams.
A decade ago, Jim Loehr brought this model to corporate America, and discovered that the mental, emotional, physical and spiritual demands placed on today's executives were frequently greater than those faced by any athletes he had ever trained. With that in mind, Dr. Loehr began to refer to the executives as "Corporate Athletes."
Dr. Loehr has committed himself to helping to expand individual and organizational capacity to meet the ever-increasing demands of corporate life. He teaches that habit, not self-discipline, drives full engagement. Dr. Jim Loehr shows people how they can improve their mental toughness in order to increase productivity, expand their capacity to deal with change and adversity, improve teamwork, and improve health. The author of 12 books, including the best-selling The Making of a Corporate Athlete, Dr. Jim Loehr challenges everyone to increase their capacity to expend, recover, and focus energy. In February 2003, Dr. Jim Loehr co-authored The Power of Full Engagement: Managing Energy, Not Time. The book introduces a groundbreaking new paradigm based on the understanding that managing energy, not time, is the key to full engagement and maximum productivity. Dr. Loehr believes that because human beings are complex energy systems, full engagement requires drawing on four separate but related sources of energy: physical, emotional, mental and spiritual.
