Alana and Lex own LAVA Home Design, a company that helps people remodel their house and hunt for a new one. Lex is the design whiz and older sis (by two minutes). A graduate of the New York School of Interior Design, she has been working in the industry for nearly a decade. Alana is the real estate pro and an agent at RE/MAX Elite. Both sisters are moms of two.
On Listed Sisters, the twins help people make over their current home so that it earns top dollar when it hits the market. Lex tackles the renovation and design, while Alana shows the clients homes on the market that better suit their needs.
Born in Los Angeles, CA, and raised in Las Vegas, NV, the twins now reside in Nashville, TN. Alana moved to the area a few years ago, drawn by the huge remodeling and new-construction boom. She convinced Lex to join her not long after. “We had spent 10 years apart because I lived in New York City,” says Lex. Adds Alana: “We would talk on the phone five times a day. But now we’re just a minute’s walk from each other.”
Even if you’re not moving, you’ll pick up plenty of tips on how to boost your home’s value. For example: upgrading fixtures like faucets and knobs (“You’re always touching them, so they should be solid, not flimsy,” says Alana) or installing outlets that also accommodate USB cords (“It’s tiny but so convenient in a kitchen,” says Lex). Plus, “we’re really entertaining!” Lex adds.
Because the sisters’ goal is to get a client’s home sold as quickly as possible, they stick to timeless designs and neutral colors. “Lex loves painting walls gray, and I’m totally on board, especially if the trim is a nice bright white,” says Alana. They also love vintage-style finishes, like subway tiles, and lighting with a unique detail, like a patterned shade.
