Ms. Zhang, Xin serves as the Co-CEO of SOHO China, along with her husband, Mr. Pan, Shiyi. Zhang Xin is known for her boundless creativity and her passion for art and architecture. She has won many prestigious international awards for her role as a patron of China's most visionary architecture and as an innovative entrepreneur. She is responsible for conceptualizing the development projects of SOHO China. Born in Beijing in 1965, Ms. Zhang moved to Hong Kong a the age of 14. Later, she went to England and studied Economics at the University of Sussex. In 1992, she graduated with a Masters Degree in Development Economics from Cambridge University. She then moved to Wall Street, working for Goldman Sachs and Travelers Group before returning to her hometown, Beijing, to start her own real estate company in late 1995.
Inspired by the emergence of the internet and the rapid rise of small and medium-sized companies and their need for combined living and working spaces, Zhang Xin and her husband Pan Shiyi initiated the concept of SOHO (Small Office Home Office) in their first project, SOHO New Town, to provide flexible and multi-functional spaces for the urban young professionals and their companies. The project sales reached about RMB 4 billion, and in both 1999 and 2000 it was the No. 1 sales project in Beijing.
