Viet D. Dinh is the founding partner of Bancroft PLLC. He is also Professorial Lecturer in Law and Distinguished Lecturer in Government at Georgetown University, where he specializes in corporations and constitutional law. A leading expert on corporate governance and regulatory compliance, he has counseled corporations and their leaders on a range of transactional and governance issues. He serves on the Board of Directors of 21st Century Fox, Inc. (formerly the News Corporation), where he is Chair of the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee, and of Revlon, Inc. He previously served on the Board of Directors of MFW Inc., and of The Orchard Enterprises, Inc., where he chaired the Compensation Committee.
He has represented numerous boards, committees, and independent directors of public companies–including the board of a public finance company with respect to a $10 billion dispute resolution, the corporate governance chair of a leading computer technology company, and the audit committee chair of a major health care service provider. Dinh also advises individuals and organizations through high-stakes conflicts and existential risk. For example, Dinh represented a major law firm in securing an unprecedented post-indictment nonprosecution agreement and recently lifted a 25-year-old racketeering consent decree against a major labor union. He successfully presented arguments for the United States before the Supreme Court in Nevada Department of Human Resources v. Hibbs, 538 U.S. 721 (2003).
Dinh served as U.S. Assistant Attorney General for Legal Policy from 2001 to 2003, where he played a key role in developing legal policy initiatives to combat terrorism, including the USA Patriot Act. Dinh also represented the Department of Justice in selecting and confirming federal judges, contributing to the appointment of 100 district judges and 23 appellate judges during his tenure.
Dinh clerked for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor and for D.C. Circuit Judge Laurence H. Silberman. He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College and Harvard Law School, where he was a Class Marshal and an Olin Research Fellow in Law and Economics. He lives in Washington, D.C., with his wife, Jennifer Ashworth Dinh, and their three sons.
