Tony Perez was a seven-time All-Star and Gold Glove winner. He was also voted as the Most Valuable Player of the 1967 All-Star Game, which went into 15 innings and ranks as the longest All-Star Game in history.
He ended his baseball career with a .279 batting average, 379 home runs, 1652 RBI's and 1272 runs scored.
In the year 2000, Perez was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame. Garnering 385 votes on 499 ballots for a total of 77.15%, Tony had the honor of being elected by the Baseball Writers rather than the Old Timers Committee.
Perez was evidently one of the premier R.B.I. men of his generation, batting in 100 or more runs seven times in his 23-year long career. From 1967 to 1977, he drove in 90 or more runs each year, with a high of 129 RBI's, .317 hits, 40 slugged home runs, and 107 scored runs in 1970. Tony P"eez was inducted into the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame in 1998.
Tony Perez played third base during the early part of his career with the Cincinnati Reds, but from 1972 onward, he starred at first base. Apart from his playing time with the Reds, Tony also played for the Montreal Expos from 1977-79, the Boston Red Sox from 1980-82, and the Philadelphia Phillies in 1983. Perez was a reserve player on the National League Champion Phillies, and batted .368 in his five World Series appearances.
Tony went on to manage with the Reds and the Florida Marlins after retirement. He is currently the Special Assistant to the General Manager with the Marlins.
