Tom Walter, who returned the New Orleans baseball program to national prominence after the school was devastated by Hurricane Katrina, is now in his fourth season at the helm of the Wake Forest baseball program. Walter was named head baseball coach at Wake Forest on June 16, 2009. During his first three seasons leading the Demon Deacons, Walter has recorded a 76-92 overall record. In just his second season with the team (2011), he guided the Deacs back to the ACC Tournament for the first time since 2008 after finishing the conference schedule with a 15-15 record. He then led Wake Forest to a winning record in 2012 at 33-24, including a return trip to the ACC Tournament where the Deacs defeated NC State, 7-3. Following the 2012 season, Wake Forest set a school record with six current players drafted in the MLB First Year Player Draft. Mac Williamson and Tim Cooney both went in the Third Round, Carlos Lopez was taken in the 12th Round, Brian Holmes was drafted in the 13th Round, Pat Blair went in the 24th Round and Michael Dimock was drafted in the 37th Round. Incoming freshman Mark McCoy was also selected in the 26th Round. More impressive than any on-the-field accomplishments, Walter selflessly donated a kidney to outfielder Kevin Jordan just days before the 2011 season opener. Jordan was diagnosed with a serious kidney disease and needed a transplant. Without hesitation, Walter gave Jordan one of his own, and in turn, gave Jordan an opportunity at a new life. Entering his 17th year as a head coach, Walter has amassed an overall record of 502-420. His 500th-career win came at home against Clemson (2-1) on May 18, 2012
