Tammy Bruce is an openly gay feminist, and a lifelong Democrat who is a born-again conservative, pro-gun lobby, pro-death penalty and pro-President George W. Bush. She is the host of a nationally syndicated radio talk show, and is a Fox News Channel Political Analyst.
Bruce came under fire in March 2009 for calling Barack and Michelle Obama "trash" in an appearance on the Laura Ingraham show.
Bruce's political career began in the 1990s, when she worked to help elect Senate Democrats Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer. She was a supporter of Bill Clinton. At 27 years of age, she was elected president of NOW, the youngest person ever to have achieved that position.
Bruce first clashed with NOW in 1995 over the O.J. Simpson murder case, scoffing openly at the notion that Simpson was a victim of racist persecution. She was censured by NOW's national board for "statements that clearly violate NOW's commitment to stopping racism". She supported the Women's Action Coalition, a militant separatist group of the 1990s that banned all men from its actions and events.
