Born on October 13, 1992, Sam Mikulak is an American artistic gymnast. He started in gymnastics at age two through his parents. He was a member of the Junior National team from 2007 to 2010 and also won the all-around championship including the event championships in the floor exercise and vault at the 2010 Junior Olympic Nationals. In his college years, he attended at the University of Michigan. He then became a member of the Michigan Wolverines men's gymnastics team. During his freshman years from 2010 up to 2011, he won the individual all-around title at the 2011 NCAA Men's Gymnastics championship with a career-high score of 90.75. The next year, he won the Big Ten Conference championship in the high bar with a 15.45 score and pommel horse with a 15.55 score. During the 2012 NCAA championship, he finished third in the all-around competition. He is actually the first member of the University of Michigan men's artistic gymnastics team to qualify for the Olympic Games. In the year 2012 also, he was selected for the five-man United States men's gymnastics team. He then represented the United States at the 2012 Summer Olympics held in London. He became the first male gymnast from the University of Michigan to be named to the U.S. Olympic team.
