Ryan Winther was born in Sacramento, California. Ryan was raised in Grass Valley and Elk Grove throughout his childhood. After graduating high school from Bear River in 2001, Ryan joined the Army as a Field Artillery Computer Systems Specialist at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. Due to a field injury, Ryan was medically discharged in 2002 and went straight to college.
Ryan’s baseball journey included short stints with Sierra College and Consumnes River College, but spent most of his playing days with Semi Professional and Independent teams. After retiring from baseball in 2006, Ryan joined the work force as a Printers assistant at Dome Printing. Ryan played golf almost everyday after work and on the weekends, leading him to find his soon to be career.
Ryan began Long Drive in 2008, and turned pro in 2009, cashing in his first paycheck with his victory at the ALDA Championship in Phoenix, Arizona. Following a 25th place finish at the 2009 ReMax World Long Drive Championships and a 9th place finish in 2010, Ryan made the decision to become a full time tour member of the LDA Tour. Ryan captured 2 more victories in 2011, both coming on the mini tours in San Diego. In the 2011 RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship, Ryan finished a disappointing 17th after a great year of hitting including 5 top 10’s on the LDA Tour. 2012 was a year for the ages, and it started very quickly. Ryan got his first LDA Tour sanctioned win at the 2012 Mesquite Duel in the Desert, and another first place at the Rockwell Golf Blast in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Ryan was then offered the opportunity to work with Dr. Greg Rose at Titleist Performance Institute, the best testing facility in the world. During a visit in August, Ryan became the fastest golfer ever recorded with a ball speed record of 226.7 mph.
Also in late 2012, Ryan along with Comcast Sports, filmed a special at Wente Vineyards where Ryan set The Guinness Book of World Record for longest carry drive on a golf course, under 1000 meter elevation with a carry drive of 430 yards.
During the 2012 RE/MAX World Long Drive Championships, Ryan set the new finals record with a drive of 469 yards, including the next 4 longest drives ever recorded at the World Championships. Ryan’s life altering moment came in the quarterfinals where he hit his 6th ball in the grid after hitting the first 5 balls out of play, dramatically propelling him into the semifinals. Ryan Winther went on to capture his first RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship in 2012.
Ryan Winther continued adding to his accomplishments in 2013, by setting the Guinness Book of World Record for longest carry drive on a golf course, over 1000 meters in elevation, at a staggering 495 yards. And taking home another title as 2013 Utah State Champion.
