Robert's entrepreneurial spirit has never failed him. Though he was contented with his thriving enterprise, Robert was also keenly aware of opportunity. In November of 1994, this determined go-getter placed a phone call that eventually redefined his career. After watching a Manhattan cable program that he felt was a little lackluster, Robert boldly called the CEO of the network, Marvin Schwamof Gay Entertainment television to "most diplomatically" assert that the style coverage wasn't up to par. When asked if he could do better, Robert jumped at the challenge. He was told if he wanted to be in front of the camera to come back when he had a demo reel. Without hesitation, he rented a video camera, and with the help of a friend, made a demo tape right in his own apartment. He submitted the raw footage and several weeks later placed a follow up call-the following week Robert made his first television debut as the style correspondent for GET.
Robert has an incredible sense of style and a natural ability to put people at ease, a rare combination of qualities for a television personality. He was determined to make GET's coverage of fashion, home and style the best of its kind - and accomplished this at a hyper-speed pace. He clinched his first important interview with designer Cynthia Rowley, and soon found his television dance-card filled with equally probing and often funny interviews with fashion notables like Tommy Hilfiger, Ivana Trump, David Bowie, Iman and Rosie O'Donnell.
Robert's talents caught the eye of his new-found friend Cynthia Rowley who enlisted Robert and his keen sense of style to produce her Fall'97 fashion show. Thrilled with the result, she then entrusted Robert with the planning her high-profile wedding to architect Bill Keenan. After being married at City Hall by New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, yellow school buses carried the guests to Floyd Bennet Field in Brooklyn for the reception that took place in an airplane hangar with a DC3 on the dance floor. The spectacular nuptuals were the talk of the town and the nation, via a feature in People Magazine.
Robert's resume reads like a who's who of the corporate, celebrity and fashion communities. He was instrumental in helping Swiss watch manufacturer TAG Heuer and Brazilian based H. Stern Jewelers reposition their images by creating signature events that fascinated both the hard-to-impress fashion community and the media. He has also decorated the homes of some of Hollywood's favorite stars and personalities - including Sandra Bernhard, Richard Kind, Marishka Hargitay and Bobby Flay.
In addition, Robert has even turned the head of renowned author Faith Popcorn, who was so impressed with his keen awareness of trends that she now considers him to be an important 'Trendspotters' and 'Trendsetter'. Furthermore, Robert makes time to work on his favorite charities, including The Hetrick Martin Institute and Bailey House. He is also responsible for developing his inimitable events to benefit GMHC.
Robert has appeared on NBC's Live at Five, CNBC's Equal Time and Fox News debating and commenting on matters of style. He is a favorite guest of Susan Powell and Chris Madden. In March 1998, he was the subject of a feature length story in the New York Times titled 'His Job Title is Elusive but His Taste is Impeccable' - truer words were never written. Since then, Robert has been featured in Time Out New York, Ocean Drive, New York Magazine and The New York Post.. His wit is so commanding that he has been quoted in various publications -- from Brill's Content to Traditional Home, rarely are someone's talents and areas of expertise so wide ranging.
In 1998 Robert began hosting Metrohome -- his own live, weekly show about interior design on MetroChannels. Today, Robert is entertaining millions of viewers as a correspondent on MetroTV's Full Frontal Fashion, non-stop coverage of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York style program. "Full Frontal Fashion" began as a bi-annual event covering the fashion shows in February and September of each year. In April of 2001, the show launched as a weekly series and in April of 2002 it premiered daily on the station. "Full Frontal Fashion" can now be seen nationally as a weekly series on MetroTV's sister channel WE: WOMEN'S ENTERTAINMENT, premiering on April 6th.
What's next for this renaissance man who is quickly becoming one of New York's premier taste makers... keep watching!
