Richard R. Gesteland is an international consultant and seminar leader, who provides clients with advice and training in marketing, sourcing, negotiating and managing across cultures. He conducts cross-cultural business workshops for companies and business schools in Australia, Britain, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malaysia, Norway, Poland, Russia, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Venezuela and the USA.
He was an international executive from 1963 to 1993 and his worldwide business experience included eight expatriate assignments for a total of 26 years, managing businesses in Germany twice, Austria, Italy, Brazil, India twice and Singapore. He has held executive positions with Sears Roebuck & Co., including Regional Director for South and Southeast Asia and Vice President for Europe/Mideast/Africa for Sears Buying Services Inc. Since 1963, Richard has negotiated over a thousand successful business deals in 55 different countries.
His professional affiliations include the International Association for Cross-Cultural Competence and Management, Vienna, SIETAR USA: Society for Intercultural Education, Training and Research, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater: Business Advisory Council, and the National Council for Business, Alverno College.
His articles on cross-cultural business behavior have been published in the Asian Wall Street Journal, Silver Kris, Foreign Trade, Chief Executive Asia, Trade & Culture, Export Today and many other international business publications. His book, Cross-Cultural Business Behavior , was published by the Copenhagen Business School Press in 1996 with a second edition in 1999, a third edition this year, and has been translated into German, Polish, Lithuanian and Russian.
Richard has been a seminar leader at the Export Institute of Singapore since 1990, the University of Wisconsin Management Institute since 1994, the Copenhagen Business School since 1994, the Gdansk Managers Training Foundation since 1998 and the Stockholm School of Economics since 2000.
