Rich Froning Jr. was born July 21, 1987 and is an American professional CrossFit athlete known for his achievements in the 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013 CrossFit Games. He became the first person to win the title of "Fittest Man on Earth" three times with his first place in the 2011, 2012, and 2013 CrossFit Games (Annie Thorisdottir was the first female repeat winner of the CrossFit Games, winning in 2011 and 2012). In 2010 Froning landed a spot in the 2010 CrossFit Games Central East Regional. Froning won this competition to move on to the national 2010 CrossFit Games, where he placed second. Froning won the 2011 CrossFit Games, taking the title of "Fittest man on Earth," winning the competition again in 2012 and 2013. Rich has recently opened up his own CrossFit gym in Cookeville, Tennessee.
In 2010, Froning qualified for the 2010 Southeast Regional competition through the now defunct sectional qualifiers. Froning won this competition to move on to the 2010 CrossFit Games, where he placed second. Froning won the 2011 CrossFit Games, taking the title of "The Fittest Man on Earth," winning the competition again in 2012, 2013, and in 2014. Rich currently owns and operates CrossFit Mayhem in Cookeville, Tennessee. In March 2015, Froning registered as a team competitor and competed with his affiliate CrossFit Mayhem. The team placed first at the Central East Regionals and the CrossFit Games, winning the 2015 Affilite Cup.
