In a move to expand product availability and customer base in India, Philips Lumileds has recently signed a distribution agreement with Delhi-based LED component distributor KORE, a part of Ramakrishna Electro Components Pvt Ltd.
Through this agreement, “KORE personnel will have full access to the products, services and people at Philips Lumileds,” says Pierre-Yves Lesaicherre, CEO Philips Lumileds. In addition to the application-specific LEDs, KORE will also receive technical assistance from Philips Lumileds. “Evidence of this commitment can be found in our global team of LED engineering experts who assist companies in the development of world-class lighting applications, and in a dynamic online resource featuring selected partner solutions,” explains Jacob Trost, distribution manager, Asia Pacific for Philips Lumileds.
“Philips Lumileds has been in the forefront of developing best-in-class LED lighting solutions for indoor, outdoor and industrial market segments. KORE is known for its experienced sales team, outstanding engineering support and large customer base in India. This partnership will provide innate synergies for both of us,” said Praveen Mahajan, director of KORE.
When asked if the company would seek more distribution partners, Trost commented, “Philips Lumileds has a long standing relationship already in place with Future Lighting Solutions. With the signing up with KORE, we add to this already established base. Philips Lumileds is very happy with the channel coverage in the Indian market currently.” He asserts that worldwide, Philips Lumileds has a strong position, being the leading high-power LED supplier in illumination and the broadest portfolio of LED products.
According to a report by consulting major Frost & Sullivan, the Indian market for LED lighting is expected to grow to $400 million by 2015, at a rate of 53% per annum. LED manufacturers are making a beeline to explore this growth potential. As Lesaicherre put it, “LED lighting is just beginning to take off in India. But we expect remarkable growth in this market over the next several years, in both commercial and off-grid applications.”
