Peter Hotez is the founding dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine and professor of the Departments of Pediatrics and Molecular Virology & Microbiology at Baylor College of Medicine. He is also president of the Sabin Vaccine Institute, director of the Texas Children’s Hospital Center for Vaccine Development, and the Baker Institute Fellow in Disease and Poverty at Rice University. Hotez previously served as president of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene and is the founding editor-in-chief of PLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases. He has served in membership and leadership roles with a multitude of professional organizations, including the National Academy of Medicine (previously the Institute of Medicine). In 2006 at the Clinton Global Initiative, he co-founded the Global Network for Neglected Tropical Diseases to provide access to essential medicines for more than 450 million people. In 2015 the White House appointed Hotez as US Science Envoy.
