Dr. Pat Heim, CEO and best selling author, has been leading the Heim Group since 1985. Dr. Heim is internationally recognized as an expert in the area of research on gender issues and differences in the workplace. She has brought together a team of speakers and facilitators dedicated to identifying and solving the gender-related issues invisibly present in business today.
Her pursuit to understanding how both cultures are different began when she worked for a Fortune 500 company. During a meeting, she witnessed two high level executives viciously ripping each others’ ideas apart. Her stomach churned as she sat there and observed the venom fly. The meeting was eventually adjourned and Pat walked out behind the two combatants and one turned to the other and said, “Wanna get a beer?” This made no sense from Pat’s perspective but she realized that if she was going to be successful in their world she needed to understand the rules of the male culture. Pat began to read all the research available on gender differences and share it with others. She learned she was not alone in struggling to understand the other gender.
These cultural differences begin in childhood and lessons learned there help establish what is considered “appropriate adult behavior”. As Pat began to understand the differences in men and women, she began to see the great value of each in the workplace! She also began to see how the communication problems between the two cultures could be remedied. Pat began to share her knowledge with others and that lead to a successful consulting career and the establishment of The Heim Group, LLC.
