Born on November 27, 1971, Nick Van Exel is a retired American professional basketball player. He was most popular for his flashy style of play and his ability to hit critical shots during games. He attended St. Joseph High School and played from 1987 to 1989. He led the WISAA state tournament and was named to the Associated Press all-state team. In college, he was playing basketball at Trinity Valley Community College and University of Cincinnati. He led the University of Cincinnati Bearcats, earned Third Team All-America honors and was a finalist for the Wooden Award. He was the Cincinnati's all-time leader. His NBA career lasted for 13 years where he played for the San Antonio Spurs, Portland Trail Blazers, Golden State Warriors, Dallas Mavericks, Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Lakers. This started when he got drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round as the 37th overall pick of the 1993 NBA Draft. He became a member of the 1994 All-Rookie Second Team. He was named an NBA All-Star in together with three of his Lakers teammates. In 1998, he was then traded into the Denver Nuggets. After four years, he was traded again and this time to the Dallas Mavericks and a 2002 first-round pick. One year after, he was traded to the Golden State Warriors and then after another year he was playing for to Portland Trail Blazers. He was released by Portland in 2005 and then he later signed with the San Antonio Spurs. This was his last season in an NBA uniform. In the year 2010 until 2011, he was hired by the Atlanta Hawks serving as the Player Development Instructor. He once appeared on an episode of MTV Cribs.
