Murray Cohen has been an electro-optical engineer employed by various firms in the tri-state area. However, music has been a vital counterpart throughout his life. During his teens he studied piano with Paul Schocker, and at Bucknell University he studied with Harold Cook, a former pupil of Robert Casadesus in Paris.
After serving with the Air Force during the Korean War, he continued his musical studies at Bard College with American composers Paul Nordhoff and Clair Leonard, both former pupils of Nadia Boulanger in Paris. His most recent studies have been with Paul Levin in New York.
Among his compositions are several chamber works, several orchestral suites and two piano concertos. Recent compositions, which have been featured at LICA concerts, are several works for piano and strings and The Millennium Suite for piano.
