Mike Torrez is a former MLB starting pitcher and World Series champion. He played eighteen seasons in Major League Baseball, winning the 1977 World Series as a member of the New York Yankees. He pitched two complete-game victories for the Yankees in the series, including the series-clinching game six win. Mike was signed as an amateur free agent by the St. Louis Cardinals. He made his major league debut at the age of twenty and pitched two seasons out of the bullpen before becoming a starter in his third year. He went on to win fifteen or more games in a season on seven occasions. After retiring from his playing career, Mike remained close to the game by working for the Newark Bears of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. He was hired as the team’s pitching coach and later served as the general manager. He also owns and operates MAT Premiums, which manufactures promotional items for other companies.
