He regularly tours the USA and Europe drumming for Kevin Devine (Capitol) and Black Moustache, and has just finished recording the next album for Kevin in Los Angeles with Rob Schnapf and Doug Boehm. Mike was recently awarded a Roulette Grant for Experimental Music and will be debuting this piece in September 2006.
Mike has worked within the dance and performance art community for several years. He began by composing extended pieces for Isabel Gotzkowsky's seasons at the Joyce SoHo and the Pace Theatre, both produced by long time collaborator Chris Bracco. In 2003 he performed at the NY Improv Festival with Jeremy Wade , a fruitful collaboration that continued February 2006 at Jeremy's widely acclaimed Dance Theatre Workshop showing. Mike performed with Jeremy during his solo using a mixture of live drums, tape loops, found sounds and processed live vocals.
WPS1.org became interested in Mike's "8 Track Attacks", an experiment in multiple sound source ambient music, and featured Mike during the Venice Biennale this past year and currently as the first of PS1's Podcasts. His involvement with PS1 continued with a performance at the museum on Easter 2006, (along with Alexandre Singh, Momus and others) as part of Jen DeNike's Coloring Book Project. Four of his scores are hosted on WPS1.org
Recently Mike has produced albums for The Fatales, Bodies Rise/Kurt Mangum, Alex Grady, War Slut and Marissa Levy and singles for Amanda LePore and Scott Matthew as well as a remixes for Grizzly Bear, Bloc Party and Diana Ross. He is writing a second album with Spencer Product for Black Moustache , and has ongoing collaborations with Justin Lowe, Michael Portnoy and Sarah Morhaim. Mike also began recording his own album in April with the help of Josh Abbott , from the Jealous Girlfriends. Additionally, he is collaborating with Gunny Scarfo, CEO of Allentium, to create custom software for a web based music installation. This will be launched by summer 2006.
Mike has created sound for installations with Ugo Rondinone and James Drake as well as producing his own at Monkeytown, PS1, Southfirst Gallery, Alona Kagan, and Diapason Gallery. He has also produced fashion shows and show music for Libertine, Rodarte, Jasmin Shokrian and H. Fredriksson/GenArt and Diesel.
