He served as Chief Executive Officer of Red Hat Inc. from November 1999 to January 2008 and also as its President from November 1998 to January, 2008. He served as Chief Operating Officer of Red Hat Inc. from November 1998 to April 1999. Mr. Szulik has over 20 years of success leading technology ventures.
From September 1997 to October 1998, he served as President of Relativity Technologies, a Computer Software Company. Prior to joining Relativity Technologies, he served as the President of Sapiens International from 1996 to 1997 and as an Executive with Mapinfo Corp. He has been leading early-stage technology companies, such as Interleaf, MapInfo. He is passionate about improving the educational opportunities for students worldwide through open source, and he is a spokesperson to industry, government, and education leaders on open source computing. He served as the Chairman of Red Hat India Pvt. Ltd. He served as Non-Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors of Red Hat Inc. from April 2002 to August 12, 2010. He served as the Chairman of the Science and Technology Board for State of North Carolina's Economic Development Board. Mr. Szulik served as Chairman and an Executive Director of the North Carolina Electronics and Information Technologies Association. He serves as a Director of Red Hat India Pvt Ltd., and JBoss, Inc. He has been a Trustee of Appalachian State University since September 25, 2009.
He serves as a Member of the Advisory Board of Proofpoint Inc. He has been a Director of Zenph Sound Innovations, Inc., since November 2009. He served as a Director of Red Hat Inc. from April 1999 to August 12, 2010. He served as a Director of Tibco Software Inc. since April 2000. He was recognized by CIO Magazine with its 20/20 Vision Award and was named one of the 50 Most Powerful People in Networking by Network World Magazine. He was recognized as the 2008 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year.
