Hall of Fame defenseman Larry Murphy retired in 2001 after a remarkable 21-season career including five 20-goal seasons and eleven seasons with 60 or more total points.
When Murphy retired, he ranked second all-time in NHL games played and third all-time in assists and points by a defenseman. Murphy's totals include: 287 goals, 929 assists and 1,216 total points in 1,615 regular season games. In 215 NHL Playoffs games, Larry scored 37 goals and 115 assists for 152 total points.
Larry Murphy was selected fourth overall in the 1980 NHL Entry Draft by the Los Angeles Kings.
Murphy is best known for being so steady, reliable and as a tremendously offensively-gifted defenseman. Murphy was enshrined in the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2004, his first year on the ballot.
