James Lansten "Lance" Bass was born in Laurel, Mississippi on May 4, 1979. Lance began singing in the school chorus in the seventh grade. Bass is famous for performing with the band NSYNC, a pop dance group made up of five guys from different backgrounds.
NSYNC first hit it big in Europe, but eventually hit it big in American after their Disney Channel Live Concert Special. NSYNC's self-titled debut album was released on March 24, 1998 with the single "I Want You Back." The song became the fastest- rising single and had the longest stay on the Billboard charts for a new act.
"I Want You Back" went platinum within four months of its release. In November, 1998, NSYNC had two albums on the Billboard Top 10 Chart, their debut album and Christmas album.
NSYNC has received three Grammy Nominations for "Record of the Year" ("Bye Bye Bye"), "Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal" ("Bye Bye Bye") and "Best Pop Vocal Album" (No Strings Attached).
