Kayla Harrison was born July 2, 1990 in Middletown, Ohio and is a judoka from the United States of America. On August 2, 2012, she won the Olympic title in the -78 kg category, defeating Gemma Gibbons by two yukos, to become the first American to win an Olympic gold medal in judo.
She also won the gold medal in the -78 kg category at the World Judo Championships in 2010, the first American to do so since 1999 (when her coach, Jimmy Pedro, did so in Birmingham, England). She was only the fourth American ever to win a judo world championship. Based upon her international success Kayla Harrison is regarded as America's best ever judoka.
There has previously been talk of Kayla entering into mma but thus far there have been no more indications to suggest that a switch to MMA is imminent.
