Indiana native and New York City stage actor Joe Farrell brings his energy, humor and enthusiasm to Trading Spaces: Family as host for the show's first season.
Born in Muncie, Indiana, much of Joe's childhood was spent on the road, as his own family moved every three years for his father's job. His travels then have prepared him well for his new gig on Trading Spaces: Family, with a rigorous production schedule that will have him on the road nearly twenty days out of every month.
Joe matriculated at Yale University, performing in student musicals and singing in two make a capella groups, the Yale Alley Cats and the Yale Whiffenpoofs, the oldest a capella group in the nation. Singing tenor and serving as emcee for the Whiffenpoofs, he has performed for Presidents Bill Clinton and George H.W. Bush. He graduated magna cum laude from Yale, and soon found himself on the road again, joining the group for a whirlwind tour that included concerts in 19 countries on four continents.
After returning to the U.S., Joe embarked on an acting career and soon landed his first break when cast in the first national tour of the Broadway musical, Titanic. Touring the country for a year as First Office Murdoch, Joe's role demanded that he be "responsible" for sinking the ship every night.
In New York, he has performed in the Encores! Production of The Pajama Game at City Center. He also recently participated in the developmental musical workshops of Disney's The Little Mermaid and Hunchback of Notre Dame.
Joe's experience also includes regional theater, most notably two shows at the Goodspeed Opera House in Connecticut, where he played leading roles in their productions of A Little Night Music and King of Hearts.
Though he's rarely not on the road, Joe calls New York City home. In addition to acting and singing, interior design is also in his blood. His mother is an interior designer.
