Craig was the backbone of the 1980 United States Olympic hockey team, that won the gold medal in Lake Placid, NY. His 39 saves as goaltender led the U.S. team to a shocking 4-3 upset victory over the heavily favored Soviet Union in the semi-finals. His stellar play continued as Team USA beat Finland in the next game to capture gold. During the Olympic tournament, Craig allowed only 15 goals en route to an undefeated 6-0-1 record and was the top goaltender posting an astounding 2.14 goals-against average.
After the Olympics, Craig played briefly in the NH. He appeared in games with the Atlanta Flames, the Boston Bruins, and the Minnesota North Stars, compiling a 3.69 goals-against average, before leaving professional hockey. He was later inducted into the International Ice Hockey Federation Hall of Fame.
Now a successful businessman and consultant, Craig has worked for Valassis Communications, a marketing services firm, where he earned many awards. Currently, he is Vice President for a full-service marketing company headquartered in Norton, MA.
Jim Craig attended Boston University, where he became an All-American goaltender. He is an avid salt water fisherman and has made a guest appearance on Charlie Moore the Mad Fisherman. Recently, Jim found time though to join other members of the 1980 gold medal squad to play together for the first time since the Lake Placid Olympic Games against a group of NHL old-timers in Los Angeles.
