Stamps is a systems theorist and author of Holonomy: A Human Systems Theory, based on his doctoral dissertation with a foreword by Professor Kenneth Boudling, one of the founders of General Systems Theory. Originally studying mathematics as an Alfred P. Sloan Scholar under John Kemeny at Dartmouth College, Stamps received his B.A. in Political Science from the University of New Hampshire in 1967 where he was Phi Beta Kappa. A Woodrow Wilson Fellow and a Fulbright Scholar, he received an M. Litt (oxon.) in Political Philosophy from Oxford University in 1969 where he studied at Pembroke College. In 1980, he received his Ph.D. in Human Systems from Saybrook Institute. Since 1982, Stamps and wife, Jessica Lipnack, have been members of the Advisory Council of the Calvert Social Investment Fund, the Washington, D.C. based mutual fund that was the first socially responsible investment fund. Together, Lipnack and Stamps have published several books: 7 Virtual Teams: Reaching Across Space, Time and Organizations with Technology
In 1982, Doubleday published Networking: The First Report and Directory, Lipnack and Stamps' first book on networking which cross-referenced 1600 grassroots networks.
In 1986, the British publisher, Routledge & Kegan Paul, published their second book, The Networking Book: People Connecting with People, which took a more international approach to the topic.
In 1993, Lipnack and Stamps published highly acclaimed, The TeamNet Factor, which Tom Peters called "Brilliant!...One of the most important management books of recent times."
In 1994, they published their fourth book, The Age of the Network: Organizing Principles for the 21st Century,
Lipnack and Stamps speak together or separately.
