He’s your teenage son’s favourite comedian. For those yet to be introduced; think Sacha Baron Cohen mixed with Kevin Hart, shaken with some Pakistani genes, delivered with a south London accent and you might get somewhat close to understanding Humza Arshad.
Having studied drama at the famous Richmond Drama School and being taught by BAFTA winner and Mr Bane himself Tom Hardy, Humza got the acting bug very quickly and went on to attempt to hit the big time and find himself an agent. The reality of how big of a task this was soon sank home… Frustrated that he could not get the attention of a manager or agent, Humza decided it was time to take matters into his own hands and make these same people come to him, so he saved up his earnings from working in his father’s school uniform store and bought himself a camera.
In December 2010, Arshad made an episode called "Diary of a Badman," which revolved around a young man that had the mentality of a fifteen year old who would get himself in trouble only to realise the moral of the story at the end of the episode. Quickly uploading it onto YouTube in a rush and then flying to Malaysia straight after, Humza came back to see the video had hit one million views within ten days. Taken back by how quick the video had gone viral across Facebook and YouTube, Humza realised he was onto something special here and the "Diary of a Badman" series was born.
Fast forward three years and Humza Productions now has become the most viewed comedy channel in the UK with over 60 million views and over 240,000 subscribers making him the most subscribed to comedian in the UK. In the last three years, z'Diary of a Bad Manz" has twice featured in the Top 10 most viewed channels on YouTube. Arshad’s comedy has seen him take his Badman Comedy Tour across the country, selling out twice as well as performing a sell out run at the world famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
This year, Humza has seen his Badman character go global following the successful "Think For Yourself" Campaign which involved Humza using his comedy to prevent the radicalisation of young British Muslims. Visiting over 40 schools within at risk areas across London, Newsweek Magazine called him ‘Britain’s most effective tool to counter the radicalisation of young British Muslims’. Not bad for a comedian making YouTube videos in his bedroom in Streatham.
Humza is making the transition from online to TV & film, currently working with Tiger Aspect on a sitcom and continuously touring his stand-up comedy show.
