Heather Cox joined ESPN in August 1994 as an analyst on men’s and women’s college and professional volleyball and women’s college basketball. Cox now serves as a reporter for ABC and ESPN’s coverage of the NBA, college football, NCAA basketball and the WNBA.
In addition to covering regular-season football and basketball games, Cox has covered the NBA playoffs, LPGA U.S. Women’s Open, NCAA Division I National Championship for men and women’s volleyball; the women’s NCAA Basketball Tournament; college football BCS bowl games; the national championship for the NCAA Women’s Soccer College Cup; and several professional men and women’s volleyball championships including the Olympic Trials and World Championships.
Cox also works with NBC Sports on its Olympic coverage, reporting from beach volleyball competitions at the 2008 Beijing Games as well as the 2004 Athens Games. Since 2003, Cox has served as a reporter on NBC’s AVP pro beach volleyball coverage.
Cox has also worked for CBS Sports, reporting on the Men's NCAA Basketball tournament, motor cross and auto racing and as an analyst on its women's college basketball coverage. Cox also reported on the NBA Playoffs and served as an analyst and reporter for the 1998 and 2001 Goodwill Games for Turner Sports.
Cox began her broadcast career as a basketball analyst for Fox Sports Net in 1993 and covered college football, professional basketball and volleyball during her tenure at Fox Sports Net.
An accomplished volleyball player, Cox was team captain of the Sacramento Stars of the National Volleyball Association professional volleyball league from 1993 to 1995. Cox was also a member of the United States volleyball team at the Olympic Festival in 1990. Her collegiate career included four years (1988-91) on the University of Pacific women’s volleyball team (Division I), serving as team captain and earning Academic All-America honors. The team was ranked in the top five nationally from 1988-91, was a National Championship runner-up and reached the Final Four in 1990. Cox is the recipient of the 2004 USA Volleyball E. Douglas Boyden Media Recognition Award.
Cox graduated from the University of Pacific in 1992, cum laude, with a bachelor of arts degree in broadcast and public relations.
