Hale Irwin is a professional golfer on the PGA Tour. Irwin attended the University of Colorado where he was a two sport athlete, playing football and golf. While at the University of Colorado, he was a two-time All-Big Eight defensive back as well as an academic All-American in football. In 1967, Hale won the individual NCAA Division I Championship in golf and turned professional the following year after graduating from college.
While on the PGA Tour, Irwin had 20 victories and prize money of just under $6 million. He won three major championship titles all coming at the U.S. Open.
Irwin qualified to play on the over-50 Champions Tour in 1995 and has enjoyed even greater success at this level than he did on the PGA Tour. He has won 44 Champions Tour titles and tops the all-time Champions Tour money list with earnings of over $22 million.
In 1992, Irwin was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame.
