As group vice president for Research and Development, Logistics and Technical Services, Hal is a leader in Tyson Foods strategic planning activities. He s held the position since 2008 with additional responsibilities that include food safety and quality assurance, information systems, animal well-being, purchasing, distribution, environmental, health, safety, and the company s pet products business, which includes True Chews® brand, Nudges® brand and Top Chews® dog treats and chews. Hal joined Tyson Foods in 2001 as senior vice president and general manager of the prepared foods group after the company acquired meat processor, IBP, inc. Hal started as senior vice president of IBP s Foodbrands America division, responsible for sales, marketing, research, and development. Prior to IBP, Hal worked for Iceland Seafood Corp. where he served in various leadership roles from 1992 to 1999, rising to become the company s president and Chief Executive Officer. Hal also served on the board of Gelmer, a European seafood processor. Previously, Hal worked 14 years for Eastern Airlines, where he held a variety of management positions, and for Sara Lee Meat Group, where he served seven years as senior vice president. Hal became involved in the food industry when he started working in his family s restaurant. He grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, and is a graduate of Georgia State University with a bachelor s degree in business administration.
