At the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics, Gwen made history when she became the first American to win an Olympic Gold Medal in the sport of triathlon. At the 2015 ITU World Triathlon Grand Final Chicago, Gwen clinched her 2nd straight world championship title by securing the NO. 1 ranking. She is the only U.S. Woman to win back-to-back world titles in triathlon (2014, 2015) and the first triathlete – male or female to complete an undefeated season (2015). Gwen finished the 2016 ITU season ranked 2nd overall. Gwen was undefeated between May 2014 and April 2016, earning 12 consecutive ITU World Triathlon Series wins, and a total of 17 ITU WTS event victories leading up to the Rio Olympics.
In 2014, Gwen capped a record-breaking season as the only woman in ITU World Triathlon Series history to win 8 career series events and 5 in one season. She posted the fastest run split of the field in every 2014 WTS event in which she competed – a dramatic statistic that has continued since. Gwen competed at the London 2012 Olympics where she finished a disappointing 38th place due to a bike mechanical.
Gwen received the Interbike 2016 Triathlete of the Year award and she was named 2014 & 2015 ITU Athlete of the Year by USA Triathlon.

In 2014, the Gwen Jorgensen Scholarship was launched to fund junior triathletes and paratriathletes. To date, more than $75,000 has been awarded. Gwen is passionate about giving back to her sport and her Scholarship offers a unique way for brands to enhance their presence across the triathlon and Olympic sports arenas while building relationships with the next generation of athletes. Gwen also lends her time to USA Triathlon for their annual junior athlete camp.
