GORGEOUS telly actress Georgia King has become the latest star to flee Twitter – after being targeted by jealous fans of her actor boyfriend Bradley James.
The 25-year-old Scot was besieged by abusive messages from other women after tweeting about her lover Bradley, 28, who plays King Arthur in Merlin.
The pair have been dating since Georgia featured as Princess Elena in the BBC show.
In the past month they have appeared together at a series of public events, including tennis matches and film awards.
But Georgia told her thousands of followers: “Lovely followers, I am leaving Twitter for good.I’m sorry to those who havemisunderstood tweets.
“Even writing sorry will annoy some but I promise my tweets have not been about my relationships. No innuendos. Nada. Love to all ugems! X”
An insider said: “As an actress,Georgia has to have a thick skin but some of the stuff was just beyond the pale. She loved Twitter but she just felt she had to give it up.”
Georgia is the latest in a string of female stars who have been targeted by jealous girls on social network sites.
Presenter Caroline Flack, 32, last month revealed she had been sent a message reading “Die Bitch Die!” by a crazed fan of her One Direction toyboy partner Harry Styles, 17.
X Factor contestant Rebecca Ferguson was also a victim of hate messages. Even after Georgia shut her Twitter account, spiteful messages were still being left about the Edinburgh-born star on sites.
One said: “Neither Bradley norGeorgia King need our sympathy.
“No woman who is secure in herman acts the way this woman has…the way she cancelled her Twitter accounts screams of desperation and it’s just, well…pathetic.”
Another added: “I hope Bradleyis not dating Georgia. They are sowrong together. She is just anattention-seeker.”
Bradley has also deleted all hismessages from his Twitter account.
But a supportive fan wrote: “Itsaddens me that she feels she needs to apologise, as if she’s done something wrong, when she’s the one who’s really the victim.”
Georgia guest-starred in Merlin in The Changeling episode last year but her romance with Bradley had remained secret until recently.
That changed when she posted pictures of the couple on holiday in the US on Twitter.
They were also pictured together at the ATP tennis final in London and a film bash.
Yesterday a spokeswoman for the actress said: “We do not comment on our client’s personal life.”
Georgia is the daughter of Scots soprano Isobel Buchanan and Australian actor Jonathan Hyde.
Since making herprofessional debut in Jane Eyre, she has appeared in Chalet Girl and One Day.
Her first film in the US, Tanner Hall, has just been released.
