In addition to his close friendship of many years with Mrs. Lincoln, newsman Frank McGuire covered the 1960 Democratic Convention in Los Angeles which nominated JFK, and was a news reporter at the White House during the Kennedy Administration. He traveled with the president to numerous aviation and military facilities in the western U.S. and the Pacific Fleet as the Vietnam war was heating up. He has been a writer and professional speaker for many years. He was Chief European Correspondent for one of the world's largest aviation and space publishers, and founded several periodicals for leaders in high-technology fields. His writing has won a number of awards.
His publication "Helicopter News" won the National Investigative Journalism Award for uncovering and disclosing a major safety flaw in U.S. helicopters which had killed an estimated 250 American servicemen and women. For several years he was under contract to CBS News as the network's expert consultant on political violence, aviation disasters and security. During his CBS News tenure, he analyzed major terrorist acts which were perpetrated at New York's World Trade Center, Oklahoma City's Federal Building and several other locations, as well as the seige in Waco, Texas, and the reign of terror caused by the Unabomber. Major aviation disasters in this period were expertly analyzed, with insight and perspective on all.
In addition to his expertise on President Kennedy, therefore, he conducts seminars on political violence, risk management, aviation disaster planning and media relations during crises. Frank McGuire has been a lecturer at the FBI National Academy and the Office of International Criminal Justice, and at the University of Colorado, University of Indiana, Duke University, University of Virginia, Johns Hopkins University and George Mason University, as well as many others.
He has spoken at the Kennedy Center, Federal Aviation Administration, AFL-CIO, Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association (HSMAI), International Group of Agencies & Bureaus, and at many other association and corporate functions. Born in Philadelphia, Pa., he won a full-tuition scholarship with the National Youth Award, receiving his B.A. degree in Syracuse University's Russian Studies Program. The commencement speaker was Massachusetts Senator John F. Kennedy. Frank McGuire then earned his M.A. from the Columbia University Graduate Journalism School's Advanced Science Writing program under an all-expense fellowship from John D. Rockefeller & Alfred P. Sloan Foundations. During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
