Eric Kuhn is an American media executive. Described to as "the first social media agent in Hollywood," Kuhn launched social media platforms for CNN, CBS News and the NBA, and served as the first head of social media for United Talent Agency. He is the chief marketing officer for Layer3 TV, a Denver-based cable television company.
Kuhn was born in New York City and grew up in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York. At 17, he hosted a television show on WHHS, a public access television station in Westchester County. He booked and interviewed politicians.
He attended Hamilton College and in 2009 graduated from Hamilton with a BA in government.
While a freshman at Hamilton, Kuhn created Kuhn and Company. A weekly radio show which aired on WHCL, it focused on media and politics. Kuhn's inaugural guest was Ed Koch.
As a sophomore, he interned at CBS Evening News with Katie Couric, and was hired by the network as a new media consultant when his internship concluded. From 2007 until early 2009 he ran the Twitter account, @CBSNews, and oversaw a viral marketing team to promote the CBS Evening News online. He was "the digital architect" of Katie Couric’s viral interview with Sarah Palin. Kuhn's final job while still a student was as a marketing and new media consultant for the NBA. He created their social media strategy and launched the NBA's Twitter.
After his college graduation, Kuhn was hired as the first audience interaction producer for CNN. In addition to working on integrating television and web content, he managed CNN’s Twitter account, @CNN, and oversaw Twitter accounts for anchors, correspondents, and producers. Kuhn also helped to create Rick's List with Rick Sanchez, and produced the social media for two worldwide Larry King telethons. In addition, he wrote about technology, government and politics for CNN.com.
In 2010, Kuhn was hired by United Talent Agency, who created a position for him as the agency’s head of social media. He represented technology companies such as Foursquare and advised UTA clients including Johnny Depp, Lena Dunham and Nicholas Sparks on digital practices including branding, marketing, online endorsements.
In 2014, Kuhn joined Denver-based Layer3 TV as head of marketing and strategy.
