Eminem is known for his ability to change his vocal pace and style multiple times within a single song without losing the beat. Many have praised him for his alliteration and assonance skills. His record, The Slim Shady LP, was one of the most popular albums of 1999, going triple platinum by the year's end.
In May of 2000, The Marshall Mathers LP was released, selling two million copies in no time. The album's first single, The Real Slim Shady, was a huge hit. The artist has achieved six #1 singles in the UK, which is more than any other rapper. He has also had the most #1 singles in the UK in the 21st century by any American artist.
In November of 2002, Mathers made his acting debut in Hollywood through his autobiographical film, 8 Mile. Several new songs were recorded for the soundtrack. "Lose Yourself" being one of them, won an Academy Award for Best Song. Mathers' voice may be heard on Crank Yankers as well as on The Slim Shady Show, a web cartoon.
Eminem succeeded in multi-platinum record sales and was granted his own record label by Dr. Dre, a sub-label of Aftermath Entertainment. He has also signed a deal with Sirius Satellite Radio in order to program Shade 45, a rap oriented station. Mathers also owns a clothing line, "Shady Ltd." and serves as an active producer of rap records.
