LightSide is helping 250,000 students in about 500 middle and high schools in over 30 states. Mayfield left a Carnegie-Mellon Ph.D. program to found LightSide in 2013. He was awarded a 2013 IBM Ph.D. Fellowship, and is an author/co-author on more than 25 peer-reviewed publications on language technologies and human-computer interaction.
