Deb was born with a congenital amputation, missing most of her left arm due to amniotic banding syndrome and brings her audience an inspiring tale of a lifetime spent facing daily challenges and overcoming adversity.
The message is clear - when life presents challenges, it's important to have a rubber bum to help you move forward. She encases the tale in the strong take home messages about the tools we need to focus on developing in order to be both resilient and successful.
Today a personal trainer focussed on motivating and inspiring people to connect with and embrace their bodies whilst achieving goals they hadn't imagined possible, Deb draws on a wealth of rich and varied life experiences and conveys a maturity and sensitivity far beyond her years to deliver a story of hope. The key message encapsulates drawing on perseverance, tenacity and inner strength when the going gets tough in order to achieve success.
Once a troubled outcast who could not find her place in society, Deb is now a confident young woman with a successful business who is training for the 2012 Paralympic games in London. She raised $10 000 in 14 days to acquire her first ever bike, a racer that she took home on Christmas Eve. She got her first ever prosthesis to help her learn to ride only 2 weeks before that. She has learnt to ride a bicycle for the first time in her life in February 2011 and, with the aid of her expert coaches, plans to excel as a cyclist.
