Debra Messing burst onto the Hollywood scene in the mid-1990s.
A four-episode stint as Dana Abandando, the scheming sister of Gail O'Grady's Donna in the ABC drama series "NYPD Blue" during the 1994-95 season was her first major role. Debra Messing then won her own series in the Fox sitcom "Ned and Stacey" in 1995.
She made her feature film debut in 1995 playing Keanu Reeves' skittish war bride in "A Walk in the Clouds". Messing later landed the female lead in the ill-fated big screen adaptation of "McHale's Navy". In 2000, Messing played the role of Mary Magdalene in CBS' biblical mini-series "Jesus" and supporting roles in the Woody Allen comedy "Happy Endings" and "The Mothman Prophecies" "Along Came Polly" and "Garfield".
However, Debra Messing is most commonly recognized for her breakthrough role as the attractive, auburn-haired interior designer Grace Adler, whose best friend is the openly gay lawyer Will Truman, in the hit NBC sitcom "Will & Grace". The show was a success with her co-stars Eric McCormack, Sean Hayes and Megan Mullally.
After being nominated for an Emmy four times for her portrayal of Grace Adler, in 2003 Messing was finally rewarded with her first trophy as best lead actress in a comedy. Soon after, Messing took a leading role in the romantic hit comedy "The Wedding Date".
