Platinum recording artist, Daya [pronunciation “dey-uh”], drives pop music down a different path as an independent artist scaling the pop charts. While her arrival on the music scene has been sudden to many, this 17-year-old singer/songwriter and Pittsburgh native has always known what she wanted to do.
She started with the piano, switching from classical to jazz at age 11, picked up the guitar and ukulele, and then found her voice along the way. Her professional career began when she was invited to LA for a writing session with platinum songwriter and producer Gino Barlett in January 2015. One of the songs created in this initial songwriting session was ‘Hide Away’, her chart climbing single. Daya proceeded to record and release her self-titled EP in September 2015.
“Hide Away” went PLATINUM in January 2016, just one month after being certified GOLD. With over 50 million streams on Spotify, a Top 10 iTunes Pop sales chart placement and #7 on Shazam’s Top 100, “Hide Away” reached a new BillBoard Hot 100 high at #24 earlier this year. Daya made her national television debut on The Today Show as Elvis Duran’s “Artist to Watch” in August 2015 and Billboard called the song “one of pop’s hidden treasures.”
Spotify has recently named Daya the winner of their latest cycle of their “Emerge” program. This honor comes as Daya’s single rises to #19 on Spotify’s US Top 50 chart, the highest position for any independent artist on the chart.
Daya follows “Hide Away” with her second single, “Sit Still, Look Pretty”, and her debut album is now available for pre-order.
