Danny Morrison was named president of the Carolina Panthers on Sept. 2, 2009, but his association with the organization began many years earlier when he oversaw the implementation of the team's training camp at Wofford College. Prior to joining the Panthers, Morrison was in his fifth year as director of athletics at Texas Christian University. His relationship with the Panthers started during the team's inaugural season in 1995 at Wofford, where Morrison served as director of athletics from 1985-97 and senior vice president from 1997-2001. As director of athletics, he coordinated a fundraising effort that enabled the school to refurbish its facilities in order to host an NFL training camp. Carolina has now conducted training camp at Wofford for 18 consecutive years, and the training camp is regarded among the best in the NFL. In his capacity as team president, Morrison is responsible for the Panthers business operations and Bank of America Stadium business interests in addition to representing the organization in many league matters. Since assuming duties as president, he has provided energy and direction for the organization. From working closely with owner/founder Jerry Richardson to serving as chairman of the NFL Committee on College Relations to overseeing a logo refinement, Morrison has immersed himself in the Panthers. During his tenure at Texas Christian, Morrison directed the development of the athletics program into one of the most successful in the nation. In the 2008-09 athletics season, Texas Christian had 16 of its 20 sports represented in postseason play, and 12 were nationally ranked - highlighted by the football team's ranking of seventh in season-ending polls. Additionally, the Horned Frogs won conference titles in four sports, and three coaches earned Mountain West Conference Coach of the Year honors. The solid footing established under Morrison was evident even after his departure when the football team recorded an undefeated regular season and the baseball team advanced to the College World Series. Texas Christian and Florida were the only two schools to play in both a Bowl Championship Series game and the College World Series in 2009-10. Prior to going to Texas Christian, Morrison was commissioner of the Southern Conference for four years from 2001-05. As commissioner, he established numerous progressive initiatives and created partnerships with corporate entities along with expanding and enhancing the conference's television schedule through various networks. While at Wofford, Morrison became the school's first full-time director of athletics and guided the Terriers from NAIA to Division II to Division 1-AA status and membership in the Southern Conference. The linchpin of that transition was the improvement of the facilities to provide a summer home for the Panthers through a capital improvement plan. A native of Burlington, N.C., Morrison attended Wofford, lettering four years in basketball and graduating summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics. His pursuit of excellence as athletics director earned him induction into the Wofford Athletics Hall of Fame in 2002. Morrison also obtained a Masters of Education in administration and supervision from the University of North Carolina in 1981 and a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of South Carolina in 2000. He and his wife, Peggy, have two children: Trey and Meg.
