For the eight years prior to that he was a senior editor and senior writer at Fortune magazine, overseeing for a time the magazine's technology coverage. Roth got his start at The Triangle Business Journal in Raleigh, N.C. in 1995, later moving to Forbes in New York.
He graduated from Northwestern University and is originally from Louisville, KY.
