Dana Carvey received his name because his parents wanted a girl, they got a boy so they named him Dana anyway. While growning up in California he used to watch a lot of Jimmy Stewart and Johnny Carson. He also liked watching the Beatles and could do the voice of Paul McCartney really well.. His family loved when he entertained them with his funny voices. Dana was multitalented musically at an early age probably with a little help from his mother who was a musician. When he was young he loved to play the drums. His father was a high school educator. While growing up Dana participagted in school plays and was a runner on his school's track team.
Dana began his career by performing stand-up comedy in San Francisco area. Dana graduated from San Francisco State University with a B. A. Degree in Communications.
Dana had a few favorite comedians that inspired him throughout his career such as Carol Burnette, Lenny Bruce and George Carlin. Dana moved to Los Angeles and won his first role in Halloween II. Dana then moved to New York City and won a role as Adam Sheilds on the T. V. sitcom "One of the Boys." Dana has played several roles on the big screen in the movies "Racing with the Moon" which starred Elizabeth Mongomery, Sean Penn and Nicholas Cage, "It's A Spinal Tap" starring Billy Crystal, and "Tough Guys" starring Kirk Douglas and Burt Lancaster. Dana first staring role was in the movie "Opportunity Knocks" as well as many others. After "Opportunity Knocks" was a flop at the box office, Dana stuck mostly to stand up comedy, when he wasn't busy with SNL, with the exception of teaming up with Mike Myers to do Wayne's World and Wayne's World2.
Dana's big chance came when he had the opportunity of being on the cast of SNL. The choices came down to him and Jim Carrey. As it turned out Dana became one of the living legends of SNL. Dana's accurate impressions won him the love of his fans. He does excellent impressions of George Bush Sr., Johnny Carson, Jimmy Stewart, H. Ross Perot, Regis Philbin, Neil Young, Keith Richards, Paul McCartney, Robin Leach and many more.
Dana has won numerous awards for his comedy talent.
Today, Dana lives in San Francisco with his family and still preforms his stand up comedy reguraly.
