Clifton Leaf is Executive Editor at Fortune magazine, where he helps oversee the magazine's editorial coverage and staff and directs Fortune's Wall Street and investing coverage. He wrote a groundbreaking cover story in March 2004 about why we're losing the war on cancer that sparked hundreds of supporting letters, was featured on national television and helped launch a national debate about whether our efforts against cancer are properly focused. He later edited the cover story about Michael Milken, “The Man who Changed Medicine.” A cancer survivor himself, Leaf spoke at the Prostate Cancer Foundation's Scientific Retreat in October 2004. He is one of the nation's leading analysts of federal medical research policies. Prior to his current position, he was assistant managing editor, assigning and editing cover stories, major features and two annual special issues. Prior to joining Fortune, Leaf was executive editor of SmartMoney, where his writing shared in a nomination for the National Magazine Award. Before that, he held editorial positions at Fitness Magazine and Harper's Bazaar. He also wrote for The New York Times among other national publications and has been a frequent guest on major television networks and National Public Radio. Leaf earned his master of fine arts in writing at Sarah Lawrence College.
