Former NBA player, Charles D. Smith is on board of directors of the National basketball retired players association. After his college career the 6' 10", 230 lb power forward was selected third overall in the 1988 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers but was immediately traded to the Los Angeles Clippers. After four years with the Clippers where he was among the team's top scorers and rebounders, he was traded to the New York Knicks with Doc Rivers and Bo Kimble for point guard Mark Jackson. Smith was expected to fill the hole at small forward left by Xavier McDaniel after the Knicks failed to re-sign him after their successful 1991-92 season, a role that Smith struggled in as he was primarily a power forward (a role which Charles Oakley had already filled). As Smith's stats declined, he was traded to the San Antonio Spurs for J.R. Reid before retiring in 1997 due to knee injuries.

Charles D. Smith Jr.-entrepreneur, accomplished CEO, skilled marketing strategist with a strong expertise in new business formation talents.  In 1989 he established the Charles D. Smith, Jr. Foundation and Educational Center, The historic building which was the first City Hall in the Northeast of the U.S. houses the non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the academic, social, and cultural skills of disadvantaged youths, many living in poverty conditions. The Organization has received 26 awards from across the United States for its outstanding contributions.  Charles has also been the spokesperson for numerous charities. He chaired a community NRZ and is spearheading economic development through the foundations community development corporation (Charles Smith Social Investment Group)

Smith's successes and contributions are not limited to the Non-profit world.  He was the founder of New York based New Media Technology in which he currently owns a prestigious Broadcast Technology patent that was utilized in the success of Major League Baseball's Advanced Media group. Prior to entering the technology field After serving as President of Simply TV, an interactive video-on-demand Internet network, Charles was also the founder and CEO of Fluid Sports and Entertainment (FSE).  Under his leadership, FSE produced a number of nationally televised events-including Battle of the Basketball Stars, Basketball's Strongest Man, and Basketball's Team Volleyball Championships-as well as the mega benefit A House Full of Toys Concert, hosted by Stevie Wonder, which still exist today.

Smith has represented renowned NBA and NFL athletes-Charles Oakley, Kevin Willis, Derek Harper, Anthony Mason, Gary Grant, and Bruce Smith, to name a few-and was instrumental in securing marketing and promotional deals for FSE clients with multinational companies, including Champion, Coca-Cola, Domino's Pizza, Perry Ellis, Fleer, Footlocker, Ford, Reebok, Starter, and Wilson Sporting Goods.

The NBA Players Association honored Smith in 1993 when it created especially for him the position of First Vice President, a post he held for two three-year terms.  Additional honors include recognition by Urban Profile Magazine as a winner of the 1992 "30 Under Thirty" Entrepreneur Contest and equaled the 2003 "Top 40 under 40" Entrepreneurs in the state of New Jersey by NJ Biz Magazine.
