Carlos Capistran is head of Canada and Mexico economics at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Capistran often ranks highly in investors polls and forecasts surveys. In 2016 he ranked # 1 team for Mexico and for Latam Economics in the 2016 Institutional Investor Research Poll and # 1 in forecasting inflation in Mexico according to Bloomberg. Prior to joining the BofAML in 2011, he served as director for macroeconomic analysis at Banco de Mexico, where he also worked as a senior research economist. Capistran has published research papers on a wide range of issues in professional journals and has co-authored chapters in the <em>Oxford Handbook of Economic Forecasting</em> and in the book <em>The Great Recession: Lessons for Central Bankers</em>published by the MIT press. He continuously offers conferences and courses at central banks, universities and other venues around the world and has a strong media presence. Capistran has a bachelor’s degree in economics from Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) and a master’s degree and a PhD in economics from the University of California, San Diego.
